About the Film
We will be showing the documentary 50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus before a panel-led discussion.
In the spring of 1939, Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus, a Jewish couple from Philadelphia, traveled into Nazi-occupied Vienna on a mission few believed was possible. They returned with 50 Jewish children and brought them to safety in the United States.
The film premiered on HBO in 2013 and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Historical Programming.
Our Panel
Following the screening, a panel of second- and third-generation voices will lead a discussion on the film and the story of refuge it tells.
- Dina Lichtman-Smith, 2G, panel moderator, and speaker for HAMEC
- Dr. Joseph Moser, 2G and Professor of German Studies at West Chester University
