The Educator of the Year Award honors Middle/Jr. High and High School teachers who set the standard for Holocaust education—helping students grasp history, confront intolerance, and think critically. If you’re considering a nomination, start here with the key facts: who’s eligible, where the award applies, how nominations work, and when everything is due.
- Who: Middle/Jr. High and High School Holocaust educators
- Where: Local area school districts in Greater Philadelphia (five-county area)
- Nominations: Colleague, administrator, or self-nomination
- Awards: One educator from the Middle/Jr. High level and one from the High School level
- Submission Deadline: June 6, 2025
Eligibility & Criteria
Open to Middle/Jr. High and High School Holocaust educators in local area school districts.
We’re looking for educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching the Holocaust and show a clear, measurable impact on students’ understanding—especially of the real-world consequences of racism, ethnic cleansing, and intolerance.
Timeline & Recognition
- June 6, 2025: Submissions due
- Early September 2025: Awardees notified by mail
- By September 15, 2025: Winners posted on HAMEC’s website
- December 6, 2025: Honorees (plus a guest) recognized at the HAMEC Gala Awards Dinner
