Local Holocaust Survivor to Recount Voyage of SS St. Louis on its 80th Anniversary
On Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 10:30 a.m., the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center of Philadelphia will lead a program at Our Lady of Port Richmond School, 3233 East Thompson St, Philadelphia, PA 19134. This program will commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the SS St. Louis, a transatlantic liner departing from Hamburg, Germany, for Havana, Cuba. On the voyage were 937 passengers. Holocaust survivor and St. Louis passenger Renate Breslow will recount her experience aboard the ship and her and her mother’s fateful trip back to Nazi occupied Europe after Cuba refused to let the passengers disembark with their legal landing certificates.
